When my mama was battling cancer, she and I would sit in her room and watch HGTV shows about remodeling and redecorating.
I’d usually settle in with a couple quilt magazines until she was tired and fell asleep.
Once in a blue moon, my mama would have an opinion on a quilt, but not too often, so it was really just a form of distraction for both of us.
This past weekend, I was making a list of the projects I really want to get done and I started thumbing through some magazines I had squirreled away in a box.
I almost forgot this quilt pattern and a little note…”This is quilt mom thinks I should make just for me ~10/2010.”
My mama had said that this was just a “very Joy” quilt for me to make.
(I’m always surprised just how many people think things are “very Joy.” I’m either highly opinionated or highly predictable, or just uniquely one-of-a-kind.)
Star Tracks is a quilt from designer Jackie Robinson inspired by a Hunter’s Star block.
Hunter’s Star is one of my favorite quilt blocks, so I suppose my mama chose well.
One of my goals this year is to make a quilt just for me.
Hopefully, sooner rather than later, I make the quilt that my mama picked out for me to make for myself.
Have you ever done some selfish sewing and made a quilt just for you? ~That’s something I’ve never done despite first learning to quilt 35 years ago. I figure that’s plenty of time to have made a quilt for myself, yet I never have!!
